Request for review of IP block
[edit]Hello. My current IP address is partially blocked on English Wikipedia until September 9, 2027 for “block evasion”.
I believe this is a mistaken collateral block. I have not intentionally attempted to evade a Wikipedia block, and I would like an administrator to review the block on my IP address.
I am trying to contribute constructively to Wikipedia, including creating and improving articles.
Could an administrator please review the block and let me know if it can be removed or lifted from my IP address?
Thank you. Marcus Jonli (talk) 15:42, 23 September 2026 (UTC)
Not done Let English wikipedia handle their stuff. Donot import other wiki issues here. Repeated attempts to do so will lead to a block here on Commons as well. Shaan SenguptaTalk 06:15, 24 September 2026 (UTC)- @Marcus Jonli: You will need to reveal what is blocked when asking. — 🇺🇦Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 06:27, 24 September 2026 (UTC)
- @Shaan Sengupta: the OP does not have contribs on EN-WP, see Special:CentralAuth/Marcus_Jonli. I surmise that this may be some kind of open proxy block, perhaps one of those placed on-sight upon Apple VPN IP or any other VPN exit; and his contribs in Norwegian don't give me a feel of imported or exported drama. Maybe some EN-admin who happens to pass by can take a look? Regards, Grand-Duc (talk) 09:31, 27 September 2026 (UTC)
- @Grand-Duc, the user mentioned English Wikipedia and and made this report just one hour after the global account creation, so I presumed that this might be someone blocked on enwiki who made a new account and chose Commons to ask for help. Shaan SenguptaTalk 10:38, 27 September 2026 (UTC)
- I created this account when I made this reply because, when I created my account on my native country's Wikipedia (which is not blocked for me), I tried logging in to the English version, at the time, I did not know there were different Wikipedias for each language. It told me that a huge range of IP addresses was blocked and stated that I was likely not at fault, which I know is true because I had not used a Wikipedia account before. I created an account because I am a local historian and genealogist interested in writing articles in that field. Marcus Jonli (talk) 12:36, 27 September 2026 (UTC)
- Alongside this, I was not aware that I should not ask this question in Commons, so I am sorry for doing so. Marcus Jonli (talk) 12:39, 27 September 2026 (UTC)
- @Marcus Jonli: While since quite a long time, there's the single user login allowing that only one account can be used for any Wikimedia project, those projects are still fundamentally separated and self-governed. This means that any questions about local blocks should be asked on help pages of the project concerned.
- Please go to EN-WP and read en:Wikipedia:Questions (-> "Personal help on your talk page"), you may also try for an unblock. You will need to directly quote the message you hinted at above ("It told me that a huge range of IP addresses was blocked"), it should contain a block ID, necessary for further proceedings.
- The project here, Commons, can't provide any more help: you're not blocked here and welcome to contribute media! Regards, Grand-Duc (talk) 12:54, 27 September 2026 (UTC)
- I'm not sure I agree with some of the above: if their IP address is blocked on en-wiki, how are they supposed to post on en-wiki to ask for help? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jmabel (talk • contribs) 15:13, 27 September 2026 (UTC)

Request protection for File:Commons Nominate for Deletion gadget en.png
[edit]Indefinite semi-protection For the same reason as File:Nominate for deletion sidebar.png. Looks like some users follow the instructions too literally. Dabmasterars [EN/RU] (talk/uploads) 17:13, 28 September 2026 (UTC)
Support, perhaps the file should have a even higher protection such as autopatrolled protected. Thanks. Tvpuppy (talk) 17:37, 28 September 2026 (UTC)
Done I've autopatrol-protected it. - Jmabel ! talk 20:01, 28 September 2026 (UTC)

[edit]For my own page? See history. IrisChronomia (talk) 15:08, 29 September 2026 (UTC)
- @IrisChronomia: Looks like one now-blocked user was hitting your user talk page. Unless they come back with a different account and do the same, I don't see a reason for protection. If another admin disagrees, though, I won't object. - Jmabel ! talk 17:58, 29 September 2026 (UTC)
- It's fine. I asked for the protection back when it was in progress; all was resolved now, and the disruptor became a number on my "user_page_vandalized_count".
- Feel free to archive, and thanks. IrisChronomia (talk) 18:33, 29 September 2026 (UTC)
- Hey, looks like someone's aroused again; shall I get a pp-vandalism? IrisChronomia (talk) 13:13, 30 September 2026 (UTC)
- Blocked. @IrisChronomia: I can semi-protect your user talk page if you like, but keep in mind that the likely result here would have been that they would still have made a bunch of bogus deletion requests, and you would not have been notified. Is that what you want? - Jmabel ! talk 13:26, 30 September 2026 (UTC)
- Yep. I know the deletion requests won't go through, but the cross-wiki notifications are a buzzing mosquito. The best way to ignore LTAs are to not be aware of them. IrisChronomia (talk) 13:29, 30 September 2026 (UTC)
- OK, I'll semi-protect your user talk page. Just be aware that if they continue, and you can't see it, they may do a lot more damage before they can be stopped. - Jmabel ! talk 13:33, 30 September 2026 (UTC)

Block evasion by Blaine2020 (talk · contributions · Move log · block log · uploads · Abuse filter log) (checkuser blocked earlier this year on enwiki), only contributions have been a string of invalid deletion requests. Belbury (talk) 19:17, 1 October 2026 (UTC)
The Template:PD-SO is confusing and I want to nominate it for deletion, but I can't because it is protected.
[edit]PD-SO is confusing and must be deleted. Unprotect it so I can nominate for deletion. Someone outside Portuguese speaking countries won't know it stands for "Domínio Público, Símbolos Oficiais". There is Template:PD-Brazil-Gov for that. Candidyeoman55 (talk) 17:21, 2 October 2026 (UTC)
- The Template:PD-SO should not be deleted without mass replacing it with Template:PD-Brazil-Gov. Candidyeoman55 (talk) 17:23, 2 October 2026 (UTC)
Not done PD-SO is a redirect to PD-Brazil-Gov and has been for a decade. There's no reason to delete the redirect. The Squirrel Conspiracy (talk) 17:46, 2 October 2026 (UTC)
- PD-SO would be confusing for people outside Portuguese-speaking countries, that's why I nominated the other redirect (DP-SO) for deletion... Candidyeoman55 (talk) 18:01, 2 October 2026 (UTC)
